Succesful event for SUBC. Ewen posted a Kit order sheet, which I took as the opportunity to add a new category to this website Kits & bits. You can download the kit order form from this site and there are also links to the vendors, so that you can have a look on what you would like to order.

21-Nov-04 Announcement from Jonny
Training this week follows general club training programme, i.e. Mondays weights, Tuesday circuits, Thursday no circuits [karting], Saturday race, Sunday off.

The plan is to form a (Hwt) 8+ to start training next week, all interested to contact myself directly at sports centre ASAP with a view to compete at Henley (temple). Looking for those commited to training as a crew (nov/R2/open) and following training plan (training times and intensity to be decided on by crew meeting next week). I [i.e. Jonny] will coach so will involve some travel to the park!

21-Nov-04 Inverness
The results for Inverness are published at Inverness Rowing club's website.

21-Nov-04 Inverness
Congratulations to the usual suspects, Neil, Fraser, Niall and Graeme, who won Mens R1 and R2 division both times coxed by Fiona B. The final results with times are not up yet. Also congratulation to Julia and Alison, who won Women Novice 2x for the Clyde Amateur Rowing Club.

21-Nov-04 Winter League
SUBC holds the 4th place in the Winter League after one event, as posted on the SARA news webpage. Hopefully Inverness changed the standings, as the club is defending champion.

18-Nov-04 Inverness
Boatloading Friday at 1pm. The minibusses leave Saturday at 5am! Be there on time, if you live far out and have difficulties to get there in the morning try to stay at flats of other members for the night. The costs are £21 for one race. The weather forecast for Inverness predicts sun but cold temperatures, take warm clothing with you, especially to keep you warm in the boat. Also, the busses just have a tape deck and no CD player, so if you would like to get around 15 people into your very own special music for 3 hours, please prepare old fashioned tapes. The driver has a veto, however!

17-Nov-04
From today on Jonny will put the weekly training programme and additional information onto a password protected page. Please follow the link on the training page.

16-Nov-04 Inverness
The draw for Inverness is up. You can find it the the website of the Inverness Rowing club.

15-Nov-04 Aberdeen HOR
The results for the Aberdeen Head are up cofd.co.uk/2004_hors.htm. Congratulations to Neil, Fraser, Niall and Graeme and their cox Maureen who won Mens R1 4+ in a time of 11'26''. Also thanks to all members of the club who went up. Of the 181 entered crews 18 came from SUBC, and although there were some scratches, still 15 crews finished the course

10-Nov-04
Our associated graduate club Laich O Menteith has organised a night out at the Scotkart cart track in Clydebank. Please see the posting at the chat page.

10-Nov-04 Aberdeen
Some important points for Aberdeen:

  • Costs: If you do only one race, you pay the basic rate of £20. Hand cash or cheques to Fiona as soon as possible. Cheques should be made payable to USSU [University of Strathclyde Sports Union]
  • Transport: The minibusses will go up at 5.00pm and 6.30pm. Luggage should go in the van toeing the boats, which leaves at 3.00pm. Please bring your bags down in time for that.
  • Necessary items: You need a sleeping bag, sleeping mat, warm clothing [Aberdeen is much colder than Glasgow] things to change. You will get cold wet feet while entering the boats.
  • Saturday evening: A set menu for £11 has been organised, after that free entry to a club or the Ceilidh at RGU [Robert Gordon University] for £7.
  • Mailing list: If you are not on the mailing list yet, please let me [Jörg] know or follow the instruction on the contact page to subscribe yourself.

09-Nov-04
Congratulations to Neil, Fraser, Niall and Graeme, who competed for Clyde Amateur Rowing Club at the fours HORR [Head of the river race] on the Thames and finished the course in a decent time of 20' 59.39'' being the fastest Scottish crew on the river [as far as I am aware]. Results can be found at www.hor4s.org.uk
